A problematic seventeen year old boy from Udine in northern Italy is drawn by an instinctive call to Cave del Predil, near the Slovenia border, where his ancestors were once explosives experts in the local mine. Although claustrophobic and terrified of the dark, he descends into the bowels of the pit only to discover that a disaster is about to happen. Facing an unexpected truth about his family’s past, he returns from underground changed forever, after having freed that frontier land from a threat sown in times of war.
