Recently released from prison, Gianni secretly begins to spy on the apparently happy family of Vincenzo, deputy police commissioner. When he confronts Gianni, Vincenzo discovers that he is moved by nostalgia for the secret love that united them when they were young and which still tears at their hearts. When the criminals Gianni is entangled with decide they want him dead, Vincenzo has to decide which side to take: respect the law, or save his old lover?
