The Eva Code

A novel that combines history and science fiction, moving along two parallel timeframes: the past of the early Twentieth century and a dystopian near future. Two apparently distant worlds, linked by a secret. In an attempt to match their enemies, the Italian government invests in secret experiments to create soldiers with enhanced DNA. Many scientists are forced to collaborate in spite of their convictions, but one rebels: Leonardo Boralevi, who runs away with prisoners who have undergone the genetic manipulation. Among them is Sara Conforti, a young Jewish woman the experiment has endowed with disturbing powers – a fragile and mysterious creature he falls in love with. The team of fugitives finds refuge in a remote mountain village, giving rise to an extreme resistance whose unexpected repercussions continue until… …2029, when expert geneticist Eva Rak studies the singular destiny that unites the inhabitants of that valley: hardy and untiring until they reach 39… but unable to live any longer than that, all cut down by sudden decay. As she investigates the mystery, Eva discovers that she shares the same DNA as the people of the village. Unable to explain why, she begins to fear that everything she knows about her life is a sophisticated hoax. The only thing Eva is certain of is her age: she only has a few months left to defuse the enemy nestled inside her or she will be struck down by that same terrible fate. To escape it, she must discover who transmitted that legacy to her, reconstruct her true history and tame what burns inside her. An unstable anomaly, but with immense unexplored potential: a possible source of progress for humanity… or a definitive weapon of mass destruction?
